Apiculture for Livelihood Improvement and Income Generation ProjectLivelihood Improvement
Where would we be without bees? As far as important species go, they are top of the list. They are critical pollinators: they pollinate 70 of the around 100 crop species that feed 90% of the world.
That’s only the start. We may lose all the plants that bees pollinate, all of the animals that eat those plants and so on up the food chain. Which means a world without bees could struggle to sustain the global human population of 7 billion. Our supermarkets would have half the amount of fruit and vegetables.
AIIP Phase I
The Apiculture for Livelihood Improvement and Income Generation Project(AIIP) aims to improve the livelihood of local population through income generation from apiculture. The project will play a pivotal role to strengthen the local communities’ access to basic needs and other facilities such as education and health. The first phase of the AIIP was conducted (from November, 2017 to April, 2018) and focused on evidence based research for appraisal and feasibility studies of apiculture as a commercial enterprise. For the purpose consultative meetings, FGDs and KIIs have already been conducted in Shankarapur Municipality, Kathmandu; Chitlang Rural Municipality, Makwanpur and Belkotgadhi Municipality, Nuwakot to find out about the technical and commercial feasibility of apiculutre in the regions.
