Beekeeping Forage Area Development
With technical support from RECOFTC, Beekeeping Development Program and line agencies under the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation, block plantations, sapling production and scientific forest management activities have been carried out. 5000 saplings of Indian Butter Tree which is a multipurpose tree has already been planted in different districts of Terai and this year an additional 50,000 saplings of Indian Bay leaves, Cinnamon and butter trees will be planted. 3 hectares of nursery facility has been provided at disposal for the production and management of saplings through government subsidy and technical assistance in Bhandara of Chitwan district where we plan to expand the NTFPs sapling production and national production capacity of plant species that are both income generating and beneficial for beekeeping activities through identification of pocket areas and development of forage areas and scientific forest management.
Beekeeping Technical Feasibility Study
A study was conducted in four districts Kathmandu, Makwanpur, Nuwakot, Sarlahi for technical, environmental, economic and social appraisal of feasibility of Beekeeping Activities in these districts.
Consultations, Expert Panel Reviews, Informant Interviews and review of existing literature on beekeeping activities were consulted with support from Kalidevi Women’s Group, Upper Tinau Coffee Producer’s Cooperative, Garden Apiary and Central Honey Entrepreneur’s Association of Nepal and Bishnupur and Pragatisheel Women’s Community Forest User Group (CFUGs).
